The 2019 I-LYA Traveler Series continued this past weekend with 43 boats making the trip to Alum Creek Reservoir just north of Columbus, Ohio. Steady 10-15 knot winds out of the southeast provided excellent, yet challenging, conditions for the 60 youth sailors and this, the second regatta of the series, was another great event for the sailors. For the second week, the team of Jack Vanderhorst and Daniel van Heeckeren of Edgewater Yacht Club took the top spot in the 420 fleet; Will Carroll of CYC took top honors in the Laser Radial; and, Optimist winners include Molly Petrigan of Vermilion Boat Club (red), Vincent Ireland of Hoover Sailing Club (white), and Wren Ruckel (blue) also of Hoover.

The series continues next week at Erie Yacht Club…
This past Saturday, June 1st, Buckeye Lake Yacht Club hosted the kickoff to the 2019 I-LYA Traveler Series. Seventy-five youth sailors, aged 6-17, made the trip to Buckeye Lake, east of Columbus, and enjoyed a great day of racing. Buckeye Lake, after several years of low water, was back in top form with comfortable temperatures and steady southwest winds blowing 6-15 knots. Spectators lined the piers of BLYC and the new North Shore bike path to watch the racing up close. The series continues next week at Alum Creek Sailing Club in Lewis Center, Ohio and will continue throughout the summer with the finale at Hoover Sailing Club in August.
