2010 I-LYA Regatta
The “Summer Camp for Adults” at Put-in-Bay.

John Bedford, Chair, SSCC

Hi! I am John Bedford this years’ powerboat regatta chairman and the one guaranteeing you and your family a memorable 5 days of non-stop activities both on land and at sea.

Each club will soon be receiving its’ own copy of the new promotional DVD.  This presentation was created to instill excitement in all your club members by visually showing how many fun activities happen at regatta.

Use your imagination as to how best use this fabulous tool to promote regatta.  Will it be at your membership meeting?  Will it be played at your clubhouse?  How about  change of watch?  Might you host gatherings in members’ homes to present it?  Use your creativity to make sure every club member can view this 5 minutes of pure fun!

It debuted at the I-X center boat show where it generated much interest and excitement.  Also watch for it soon on the I-LYA website, here you can show friends and family why folks keep coming back year after year to enjoy a tradition that celebrates 117 years of boating competition and excellence all on the island called South Bass!

So!  Sailors, power boaters, and junior sailors alike, mark your calendars for July and August of 2010 and begin making your plans to attend an unforgettable boating experience.

I-LYA Sail Regatta
Making a Comeback....

Bob Sheppard, Chair, ACSA/SSC

After a good I-LYA trustee meeting the other night in Sandusky, I spent the next day in the area shooting some wildlife pictures. I saw at least ten eagles and two new nests for this year.  It makes me think of how near extinction they were. The comeback they have made with new nests and new beginnings is pleasing to see.

The “New Bay Week” is pleased to be the US SAILING Area E eliminations for the Adams and Mallory Cups this year.  More details will be forthcoming.

All courses are set to get more races in for the regatta this year. Depending on your fleet (PHRF/JAM or ONE DESIGN), you might see up to seven races, weather permitting.

With the implementation of the NEW social packages in 2010, you will have a greater opportunity to experience camaraderie by putting all sailors in one spot every evening with beverage and food.  Let the stories begin.

The Boardwalk wants to welcome everyone from 1500 to 1800 with a Sailors Happy Hour special on Thursday the 5th of August. In addition to the welcoming party, they are offering a discount for the whole weekend on food and non-alcoholic beverages with the wristband you get when a social package is purchased. We will have more details next month with a more specific itinerary and other discount opportunities.

We are planning on getting the on-line registration in place in the near future that will include the social package sign up. You won’t want to get caught without your wristband this year! Wristbands will get you into the events each evening and discounts around the island.

There will be more information in the coming months. You might be surprised with all there is to do at the “New Bay Week”.  Be sure of this…the Bay is welcoming the sailors back!
