Concussion Law

Ohio's "Return-to-Play" Law is in effect and affects competitive sailing!

Parents are an important part of preventing head injuries and should read the Ohio Department of Health Concussion Information Sheet. Ohio Program Directors, talk to your risk management people to determine how the law affects your camp. I-LYA requirements for hosting clubs are on the Traveler Series page.  Please note that while each state has different laws, we must all comply with the laws in the state where our kids are competing.  Complete information is available at: http://www.healthyohioprogram.org/concussion.

Employee Background Checks

Employee Background Checks

The National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI) offers background screenings at a discounted rate for sailing clubs who are members of USSailing.  NCSI is based out of Cleveland and is the top provider for screenings in youth sports.  The screening process is simplified for member clubs and all work is done by NCSI, meaning they simply send you a "Red Light" or "Green Light" for the candidate.  No fingerprinting is necessary and all processes are taken care of online.  Background checks run at a rate of $22.50/candidate and $195/international candidate.  After learning the importance of screening coaches and instructors at our recent symposium, Sandusky Junior Sailors has committed to complete background checks on all of our employees.  If you have further questions or to register your organization over the phone, please call
NCSI representative John Miller at
(440) 542-9690 or visit their website at www.ncsisafe.com.
